Peer Writing Mentorship Application - Fall - The Humanities Edge
Are you ready to put your classroom skills to work? Thanks to a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Humanities Edge invites you to apply to be a Peer Writing Mentor this fall.
Selected applicants will have the potential to receive up to $320 per week for up to ten weeks (up to 20 hours per week commitment) for up to a maximum of $3,200 across the term.
To be eligible, applicants must have previously completed ENC1101 with a grade of 'B' or better.
Peer Writing Mentors
- Are drawn from all majors.
- Work closely with a Faculty Supervisor and program facilitator who will provide guidance in assisting them to write effective comments on student papers and hold effective group/one-to-one conferences with students.
- Will be embedded in a ENC 1101 English Composition course at Hialeah, Homestead, Kendall, North, Padrón, West or Wolfson campus.
- Work with ten to fifteen students on their writing assignments and course material.
The support that Peer Writing Mentors provide may include a combination of the following:
- Helping students understand writing assignment descriptions and rubrics
- Meeting one-to-one with students to discuss planning, drafting, revision, and/or editing
- Providing written feedback on drafts that students will revise
- Helping students interpret and apply faculty feedback
- Guiding small group peer review
- Assisting in facilitating in-class activities
- Introducing students to writing resources
- Mentoring students
- Communicating with faculty about students’ needs
